PICKLES

Out of all the wonderful foods in life I think that a good pickle ranks near the top. So how does someone get good pickles? The really good homemade pickles like the ones that Great Aunt Bessie from Indiana used to make. Well I have a number of problems to overcome….

First, I don’t garden. My heels sink in the mud and my worst fear in the entire world is slugs. I would walk a block (in heels) around a slug and in the great northwest slugs are as common as rainy days and bikes in the city.

Second, I don’t pressure cook. I don’t even know or want to know where to start on this one.

Lastly, I don’t have that old family recipe. For as far back as I can remember, no one in my family has ever been the type to make and store anything. I guess we are just city folk.

BUT I WANT GOOD PICKLES.

Then it hit me. I have toilet paper!

Do you see where I am going with this?

I have toilet paper and my friend has pickles!

It was about as perfect as trades could get! I think that I have found yet another good reason to coupon and stockpile.
